Day 247: Twiggy Trees

On a little drive at lunch time today I found these mostly nude tree trunks and the contrast against the clear blue sky struck me as being photo worthy. I've decided to use the manual settings on the Nikon as much as possible and to experiment with the different settings. I still don't really know what I'm doing but through a little trial and error I'm ending up with images that I'm happy with. Although sometimes for the first couple of photos I forget I've left the camera in manual mode and that I need to adjust it to suit the conditions.

It was such a nice day today, it's really startin to feel like spring is here at last. Maybe I should have taken a photo of the blossoms that have started coming out to give that 'spring is in the air' kind of feel, but then again I'm pretty sure this nice weather will lull us into a false sense of security only to snap back to the cold.

Day 187: Wet & Grubby

I can't remember exactly where this is... I know it's somewhere between Clarence Town and Urunga and I know it was where we stopped for lunch. I think it was Walcha Road or Thunderbolts Way... Are they the same thing?

What ever it was, it would have been an awesome stretch of road to ride in the dry, instead we had light rain and muddy roadworks to contend with. I don't think the R1 has ever been this grubby. From here we continued on in the drizzle and did a section of highway that lead into Urunga, it was nice to be on smooth roads, it was also nice to have the heated handgrips running.

Day 32: Bikers Can't Read

I ducked across the road today to grab a pie from the Harley Davidson shop in Fyshwick, their Beef & Red Wine Pie really is worth crossing the road for.

As I hopped out of the car I noticed this little scene and had a chuckle. Just read the small sign above the bike in the middle and you'll understand. The funnier thing is that these aren't illiterate customers bikes, they've been put on display by the very shop that put the sign up and painted the lines in their parking area.

I'm always up for ridiculing those who ride in the 'Child Birthing Position' so it got me thinking maybe this was intentional... maybe it ties in with the whole bad boy image that comes free when you buy a Harley... maybe the shop staff are rebelling against the owners rules in an attempt to show that they have little regard for 'The Man' (even if the 'The Man' they're rebelling against pays their wages)... maybe swinging your leg over a Harley really does decrease your IQ in direct proportion to the increase in antisocial behaviour.

Whatever the reason, it made my lunch break just that little more enjoyable.

Day 23: Happy Chinese New Year

I had lunch with my friend Doris today (whom I work with and sometimes reads this blog) and as she's originally from Hong Kong we thought it fitting to have something asian inspired to celebrate Chinese New Year. We chose to dine at Bambusa, quite a nice little restaurant in Manuka that speacialises in Modern Asian Cuisine. Doris recommended the Tapas for lunch, which is what you can see in today's photo. It sounds weird I know, Tapas at an Asian restaurant, but I have to say it just works.

I got a little excited when the dish came out and ate half of what I think was a Yuba Cake (delicious!) before I remembered to snap a shot of the dish on my trusty iPhone.

I highly recommend the Chinese Tapas, it was all so yummy and the service was great too. I'll definitely be keeping Bambusa in mind next time Belinda and I manage to get a night off together... which might even be sooner than later with Daphne coming for a visit tomorrow! (I know my Mother in Law reads my blog... Subtle hey?)
