Day 288: Good Sleep?

I've copied my wife again and tried a sleep measuring app for the iPhone, Belinda paid a whole dollar for hers but mine was a freebie. I gave it a go tonight and this is what I've found: I went to bed just before 1am, didn't get to sleep until just before 2am, apparently woke again a bit before 5am after around an hour of 'light' sleep and close to 2 hours of 'deep' sleep before being woken at 7am by the alarm that I'd set for 7:30am. This, according to my sleep app, equates to an 82% efficient night's rest. I beg to differ, my night's rest felt much less efficient.

The theory behind these apps is that you go through cycles in your sleep, from light sleep to deep sleep and that it's better to be woken during a light sleep period because you will feel more refreshed than if woken from a deep sleep. This explains the alarm going off half an hour earlier than what I'd set it for, apparently at 7am I was coming into a light sleep cycle whereas at 7:30 I would have been in a deep sleep. I'm still not sold on the idea... and to be honest, I'm not entirely sure that having my night's sleep mapped out so I can see exactly how crap it was is really doing me any favours.

Day 272: TGIF

With another week over and a full weekend ahead of me I thought it best to relax as much as possible tonight. The wine helped, so did the yummy (as usual) dinner and kicking back in front of the telly... what didn't help was Henry's latest habit of not wanting to go to bed.

Over the last few nights it's been the same: Bed time comes and Henry digs his heels in and wont go to bed, this is followed by putting him in bed anyway and then listening to him scream for around 10 minutes before crashing out. It's certainly not what anyone could mistake for a good time. I'm really hoping this latest phase doesn't last long, but in the mean time there's always wine.

Day 211: Local Landmark 4

Happy Birthday Henry!!

After all the excitement of Henry's birthday party yesterday we took our guests for a drive out to Googong to see the paddock that will soon become our suburb, from there we went on to have lunch at the National Gallery followed by a stop at Parliament House. As we were driving from the Gallery to Parliament House Henry started to drift off to sleep and since he didn't sleep much yesterday, or last night for that matter, the decision was made that I'd drive around in an attempt to let Henry get some much needed rest while everyone else took in the sights of Parliament House.

After a couple of laps of Capital Hill I became bored and concerned that I might get dizzy so I ventured a little further afield. I'd had an idea that I wanted to take a photo of the National Museum of Australia for my Local Landmark series for a while and before I knew it I was driving across to the other side of Burley Griffin with Henry fast asleep in the back.

It's such an interesting building with so many opportunities for cool photos, unfortunately I was a little limited with my ability to leave the car so I took today's photo from the drivers seat with the window down.

Day 83: Bed is Beckoning

I've been thinking about this all day... After two nights this week being woken by Henry who has then limited our sleep to around 4 hours each night I'm absolutely exhausted.

My poor little bloke hasn't reacted well to the multiple mosquito bites he has on his ankles. They were exposed on Tuesday afternoon when he was playing with Jenna in the back yard and the mozzies love him as much as they love his big sister. The bites have come up in big hard lumps and they've been driving him to crying, scratching frenzies that seem to start shortly after midnight.

I'm hoping for a solid night's sleep and tonight and a late wake up tomorrow.

Day 15: The morning after the night before

Today I slept. A lot.

After checking out of our hotel at 10am and then eating a massive breakfast at the little cafe across the road we made our way back to Casa de Freke where I 'had a little lie down'. Belinda woke me to tell me everyone was going out for lunch and asked if I wanted to come, I declined and immediately fell asleep again waking just before everyone came back from lunch at around a quarter past 3.

On the way home I realised I hadn't taken a photo for today, Belinda suggested that the cloud formation as we were approaching Goulburn would look good using the 'Drama' effect in Snapseed. I agreed and with minimal effort I had my photo of the day.

The problem with sleeping so much during the day is that when it's time to go to bed you just don't feel that tired. Which is why I'm still blogging at half past 12... I'm off to bed now to see about getting some more sleep.
